I love kids, and truly enjoy helping them to become the best version of themselves possible. In today’s day and age it’s harder than ever to be a kid. I help kids to not just survive hard times but to thrive.
It is no surprise that many kids struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem or self-worth, depression, distractibility, hyperactivity, impulse control, overwhelm, difficult life transitions, grief, sleep problems, friendship issues, communication difficulties, boundaries, and more. There’s so much going on in our world today, and they are not immune to it. Teaching kids the skills they need to succeed and be happy are paramount to their future. With a good therapist, a supportive parent/caregiver, and a child that is ready to take the next step happiness and success are not just a possibility but a very real reality that is right around the corner.
I am a hands on play therapist. Experience has shown that when a therapist joins with the child in play it not only enhances their connection but sets the groundwork for true healing to occur.
I also strongly believe in cognitive behavioral therapy and assigning homework for the parents/caregivers to do with the child to help increase their ability to co-regulate, promote self-regulation, improve self-control, increase problem solving, enhance their bond and connection, support their child with triggers to big emotions, and learn and practice new coping skills.
Research has shown that when a parent/caregiver is involved with a child’s therapy that it is directly associated with long-term decreased symptoms for the child and improved child/caregiver relationships.
I also utilize motivational interviewing, art therapy, and somatic mind-body techniques like the emotional freedom technique also known as tapping, and comprehensive energy psychology with brain balancing techniques from the teachings of Donna Eden for an integrated holistic approach to wellness.
And last but not least, I strongly believe in supporting the parents/caregivers through this stage of life. You need support too! Parenting is not easy, but it can be easier. Contact me for a free consultation. I am here to help.
